The Robbers Roust Canyon is located East of the town of Nucla that is on the West side of the Uncompahgre Plateau. Heading East on the 25 Mesa road you will reach Tabeguache Canyon ( don’t you love all of these Ute Indian names ), the Robbers Roust is a off shoot of this canyon, North of where the road crosses. Last spring Judd Redfield and myself made a exploratory journey into this area to see if we could figure out how to get into this spot.
We found an old Indian trail that led down the West side of the Tabeguache Canyon what looked to be about a half mile or so down stream from the Roust. Our hopes where to travel up stream to the mouth of the Roust. Our hopes where broken when we found that the Stream was a roaring River and the vegetation was impassable. After placing a Geo-cache ( one that is still not been found as of this writing ) we decided to trudge our way back up the trail to my Burb and travel out of the Tabeguache Canyon and over to the tip of Starvation Point and get a different angle on the Robbers Roust.
